Interim marketing support for GHD’s UK energy and marine consenting teams

GHD needed support for its UK marketing team, with a specific focus on helping two business lines strengthen their market presence: Energy Advisory and Marine Consenting.

The work was not simply about keeping activity moving. Both teams had clear strategic needs.

Energy Advisory was new to GHD, so the market needed to understand that this capability was now part of the business. Marine Consenting was already established internally but had limited visibility in a competitive UK market. As a small team with growth ambitions, they also wanted a clearer foundation for how they would present themselves, work together and deliver for clients.

Working two days per week, I provided embedded strategic marketing support, primarily working with technical leads.

I began by developing detailed client personas, competitor research and analysis, and messaging frameworks for both teams. From there, I supported service-related website content, campaign planning, insight articles, video content, capability documents and other practical marketing assets to improve visibility and support market positioning.

For the Marine Consenting team, I also developed an internal playbook to help define how the team would work, communicate and deliver for clients as it grew.

Alongside this, I helped organise a client event for the wider Commercial Advisory business, designed to bring service lines and clients together, support cross-selling conversations and give clients a clearer understanding of GHD’s capability in this space.

The outcome was a clearer market positioning strategy, stronger client-focused messaging, regular content going to market and practical tools the teams could continue using after the maternity cover period ended.

This is what Marketing Momentum Cover is designed to do: provide senior, sector-aware marketing direction and delivery when a team needs continuity, focus and momentum without adding a permanent role.
